This directory provides documentation, databases, and public file transfer 
for the Horizons ephemeris system. Files one might encounter:

 Configuring_Mail_Clients_to_Send_Plain_ASCII_Text.pdf
  Guide to setting up e-mail clients to send ASCII plain-text mail.

 Horizons_doc.pdf
  .pdf (Adobe Portable Document Format) version of Horizons documentation
  Occasionally updated.

 Horizons_doc.ps
  .ps (PostScript) version of Horizons documentation
  Occasionally updated.

 Horizons_doc_cover.ps
  .ps form of original Horizons documentation cover sheet
  Not updated

 MI.DB
  Latest ASCII file "Master Index Database". Entries provide look-up
  data linking asteroids and comets to their location in the DASTCOM3
  export database. Names, primary designations, alternate designations,
  and SPK ID numbers are linked to current DATSCOM3 record number. 
  The file is updated hourly, as necessary.

 dastcom3_pc.tng
  small-endian version of latest small-body export database.
  For PC (Intel), Max (Intel), VAX, DEC, etc.

 dastcom3_sun.tng
  big-endian version of latest small-body export database.
  For Sun, Mac (PPC), HP, SGI, etc.

 dastcom5.zip
  Link to a a portable/programmable version of the JPL/Horizons 
  database of asteroids and comets ("DASTCOM5"), updated as often 
  as hourly:
           
             ftp://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/xfr/dastcom5.zip
             unzip -ao dastcom5.zip

  Unzipping will create a sub-directory with a file called
  "./dastcom5/doc/README.txt", explaining usage. 

  Other directories contain FORTRAN source code for a reader library 
  and application program called "dxlook" which accesses the database 
  interactively or via scripting.

  The DASTCOM5 package is intended for programmers comfortable with 
  UNIX/LINUX/MacOSX command-line usage.

 horizons_batch_example.brief
  Basic example of command file/template which can be retrieved
  and edited by users to e-mail requests to Horizons.
 
 horizons_batch_example.long
  Fully commented command file/template which can be retrieved
  and edited by users to e-mail requests to Horizons.

 ispy_mail_example.long
  Commented command file/template which can be retrieved and
  edited by users to e-mail requests to the ispy tool to identify
  objects in a spacecraft instrument field of view.
